If you haven’t downloaded the free 12 Days of Gifts app from Apple yet, download it now and you will be alerted each day starting on December 26th of free gifts from Apple. These could be apps, music, movies, TV shows, books, etc. offered via the App Store or the iTunes Store. I notice Apple sent a gift today (Monday, 16th of December) already, so you might as well not wait until December 26th and get the free app now.

Thank you, Steve Jobs. Here's to the crazy ones… Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. Think Different.
I had come home from a wake of a long time friend of mine. His death was sudden and unexpected. I was in disbelief that we lost him so quickly. It wasn't long after I checked Google+ to see what was going on while I was away and to distract my attention from the loss of a friend. To my surprise, there it was... people posting story after story about Steve Jobs. Just returning from my good friend's wake and knowing Steve Jobs' health had been declining for some years now, I feared the worst.
The popular 3rd party camera app for the iOS, Camera+ by tap tap tap (App Store link) has been updated. Among some of the updated enhancements is a new feature called, 'Clarity.' While it seems like it is being trumped as a one button fix-all for all your bad photos, I would not be so quick to use it blindly. Like with any other post-processing feature for your images, you will want to compare the results you get from using it first. It is possible that while it may add 'clarity' to a photo, it may also affect the contrast and shadow elements as well.
The GetGlue app (from AdaptiveBlue) for iPhone and iPod touch has been updated and with it, it has a newly enhanced user interface and more. (See my previous article, Get Glued on GetGlue for more details on GetGlue). In addition to the user interface refresh, which is a quite welcomed refresh, it also now allows you to check into "sports" in addition to the previous categories already available such as television, movies, books, music, wine, etc. Also it now offers Foursquare location check-in integration as well (unfortunately, Gowalla is not also offered as an option as well).
The update should address a bug that may had prevented you from seeing episodes (podcast episodes and exclusives) appearing on your screen on the iPad. A couple other bugs were addressed as well.
To learn more about the app, see: Don't Miss an Episode with the DW Podshock Companion App for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
After being pulled from the App Store by Apple for violating its interface standards for apps (by including a hidden function that changed the volume controls into a shutter button for this camera app to use), the Camera+ - tap tap tap has returned.
Just a quick heads up on some price drops of Star Wars iOS apps. I don't know if these are merely sales or permanent price changes. That said, I would assume they are on sale for a limited time instead of risk it and see the prices jump back up.
As mentioned in Doctor Who: Podshock as well as here (see DW Podshock App for Podshock Supporting Subscribers), if you are a current Podshock Supporting Subscriber, you can get a promo code for a free DW Podshock Companion App (iTunes link) for the iOS platform (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch). Up until now, the codes from Apple were valid only in the US.
As of today, the codes can now be redeemed through any App Store around the world. This is great news for our supporters outside of the US.
If you are like me, you are just too busy to keep a diary or journal. Hell, it is hard enough just keep a blog going these days. But what if I were to say that you are already keeping a diary or journal without even knowing it? If you are posting messages to Twitter, updating your status on Facebook, posting your photos to Flickr, checking in with Gowalla, placing videos up on YouTube, etc. you are already keeping a public journal scattered across the net. Now what if you could corral them all together and include private entries and keep it all in your pocket (via the iPhone of iPod touch)?
Outside of a possible coffee run or something of that magnitude, the one place you won't find me on what is known by some as "Black Friday" (the day after Thanksgiving in the States) is at a retail store. That doesn't mean you won't find me on the iTunes App Store looking for a deal.
This Thanksgiving weekend is no exception and it wouldn't be the same without some great app deals for your iOS device (Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod touch). Here are some deals I discovered this year in the Apple iTunes App Store. I may be updating this article if I find more over the course of the weekend, so check back here for possible additions or follow me on Twitter: @LouisTrapani for shout outs about them.
Earlier this week, the DW Podshock Companion App (iTunes link) version 1.1.0 has been submitted to iTunes and we expect it will be available soon. Because it was based on iOS 4.2, most likely it will not be released before Apple releases iOS 4.2 which is due this month. Rumor had it possibly being released today, but there was a problem discovered with the wi-fi functionality in the Gold Master (pre-release) version of iOS 4.2 if so, it would likely mean it would have to be addressed before it is released.
As mentioned in Doctor Who: Podshock 226 and in Doctor Who: Podshock 227, if you are a current Podshock Supporting Subscriber, you can request a promo code for the DW Podshock Companion App (iTunes link). We are limited on how many we have to give out though. Therefore only one code per supporter and they are limited to availability.
Also please note that the free promo code is limited to Podshock Supporting Subscribers in the US. The codes will only work with the US Apple iTunes Store. We tested it in the UK. We are sorry for this limitation.
